Our story begins in December of 1999. I happened across the Spanish Water Dog (SWD) in a book of rare breeds. After some researching I found a breeder in Virginia named Craig Pope and then one in Spain named Antonio Garcia Perez. In January of 2000, I acquired Koke from Antonio - my first female. I promised to assist Antonio in establishing the breed within the U.S. After twenty-three years of hard work and dedication, I commend and congratulate all who have brought this breed so quickly to AKC recognition. Our beloved Koke lived to 14 years and had two litters. Her offspring have produced many more. Snow is retired living the dream after whelping three litters, total of 31 healthy pups all placed in fine families! Snow’s daughters are planning litters in 2023. We were looking at a new litters in 2022, however, mama nature did not cooperate. We follow a process, fill out the contact form, I contact you and we chat on the phone to a pre-application, to waiting list to pup. I do not take deposits till we have a puppy ready to whelp.
Please read SWDCA.ORG before contacting me, I am not interested in simple statements like, “looking for a SWD puppy and how much statements,” do your homework then contact us. I assign homework to all my owners so be prepared. I take time to place my pups and not everyone should expect to be on the list, just because they want an SWD. We can discuss the criteria!
I am a dedicated family breeder. I believe that health and wellness documentation is essential to furthering this amazing breed. While our dogs are show-quality, we choose to keep the dogs with our family year round for fun on our land in Eastern Washington as well as at our lake (water) place in Montana.
A little bragging, 2020, Cody at six months, youngest SWD ever to pass AKC, Good Canine Citizen Award, then in 2022 my pups had three first in the USA, Rio, Laura Pantil’s male, obtained at two years old his designation as as first certified Search and Rescue SWD in North America, Type 1, Suburban Training! Elekas and Hector also were t passed the AKC Good Canine Citizen Award before turning one year old!
The middle name is very important to us and recently as chair of the SWD Water Works Committee I am convinced we need to honor this dogs natural working abilities today, more than ever, especially, “water, herding and hunting!” If you are interested ask about Working Water Dog Association a new group focused on water events .The joy of owning and raising SWDs cannot be explained until you experience the wonders of this animal.
Many have not met a Spanish Water Dog and my advise to you is ask your breeder for referrals to meet an SWD! Or attend the SWD Specialty July 5-8, 2024, Pullyap, WA, WA State Fair Grounds.
Proud breeder of Rio, only certified SARs (Search and Rescue) SWD in North America!
How about Pancho, Elekas and Noodle all certified Canine Good Citizen, AKC

”Ocho is the joy of our lives – and especially of our children’s lives. Ocho couldn’t be more devoted or more loving. We couldn’t imagine life without him. We’re forever grateful to Spanish Water Dogs Northwest for bringing Ocho into our lives.”
